Normal cholesteric liquid crystal films reflect light only in a very narrow band of
wavelengths, but Chelix has developed proprietary CLC film technology that reflects
broad bandwidths of light in the infra-red (IR) spectrum. This is accomplished by constructing a
continuously varying pitch of the the liquid crystal
molecules in the material.
Chelix is currently developing improved CLC systems that combine both right- and left-handed
CLC films to reflect nearly 90% of incident radiation with wavelengths ranging from 800 to 1600 nm.
The spectral reflection quality of our two-handed CLC films is illustrated in the following graph:

Manufacturing
Chelix Solar Control Films are applied to PET and other substrates through a traditional UV wet
coating process, very similar to the process of making acrylate hard coats on current
solar films.
A typical Solar Control Film construction is shown below. Our CLC systems may also serve
as an interlayer adhesive and protective coating for metallization layers.
